Centaurea cyanus 'Classic Magic' Seeds

Classic Magic is a lovely new selection of Cornflowers with button shaped single and semi-double flowers in all shades of lilac, purple and white. Some have attractive contrasting centres,others have white tips to their petals. They all have strong grey-green cotton stems. Popular with the cut flower trade, for drying, for confetti and Perfect for Pollinators too.
Sow in spring for summer flowers - takes 10 -12 weeks from seed to flower - then sow again in autumn. From an autumn sowing cornflowers produce the largest plants and masses of flowers. Cornflowers are extremely hardy annuals, easy to grow and perfect for cutting.

Sow Seeds Easy to grow. Sow outdoors in March/April, then again in May for later flowers. Sow in August/September for sturdy early flowers next year.
Thin/Plant Out Allow 30cm (12 inches) between plants.
Conditions Required Prefers moist but well drained soil in full sun.

Keep picking and dead heading to encourage new flowers.
Centaurea need netting support to help them grow straight or the stems will bend.

Flower Production Takes 10- 12 weeks to flower from a spring sowing. Flowers produced from May to August.
Picking Pick Cornflowers early in the morning, remove lower leaves and stand in deep water for a few hours before arranging. Corflowers last 5-7 days in a vase.
Planting Combinations Centaurea Classic Magic looks great with jewel coloured flowers and lime green foliage. They grow particularly well with other Cornflowers such as the lovely pink Centaurea 'Classic Romantic' and the lacey white flowers of Orlaya grandiflora and Ammi majus.
