Seeds to sow in May.
There are lots of lovely Hardy Annual Seeds to sow in April. They are beautiful in your garden, excellent for wildlife and brilliant for cut flowers too.
May is the month to sow Half Hardy Annuals too. Cosmos Antirrhinum (Snapdragons) Rudbeckia and Cleome can all be sown now.

Helianthus F1 'Starburst Lemon Aura'
Helianthus 'Starburst Lemon Aura' are premium, tall annual Sunflowers with fully double blooms. Each plant is branching and produces many stems with lovely large pale lemon flowers with a lemon & lime central disk. Starburst Lemon Aura Sunflowers are easy to grow, brilliant for cut flower production and excellent in the garden too. What's more they are pollenless and loved by florists and gardeners for their gentle colour and soft texture.
For your cut flower patch sow indoors March-April then plant out in May. Sow again when the soil has warmed up outdoors (from May onwards) for a later crop. For cut flower production sow a batch of seeds every two weeks.

|Sow Seeds||Sow seeds indoors (at 10-16°C) March-April then plant out in late April and May. Sow outdoors in spring (May) for a later crop of summer flowers. Sow every two weeks for cut flower production.|

|Conditions Required||Sunflowers prefer moist but well drained soil in full sun.|
Water thoroughly in dry spells.
|Flower Production||Vigorous tall well branched plants produce many stems 45cm-60cm long (18-24 inches) with lemon flowers up to 10-12cm (4-5 inches) wide produced from July to September. Takes 9-10 weeks from seed to flower.|
|Picking||For cut flowers pick Sunflowers when the first few petals have unfurled. It's best to pick when it's cool, early in the morning or evening, strip most of the leaves from the stem and stand them in deep water for a few hours. Sunflowers have a long vase life, no preservative necessary. |
