Seeds to sow in May.

There are lots of lovely Hardy Annual Seeds to sow in April. They are beautiful in your garden, excellent for wildlife and brilliant for cut flowers too.

May is the month to sow Half Hardy Annuals too.  Cosmos Antirrhinum (Snapdragons) Rudbeckia and Cleome can all be sown now.

Waooh Sunflowers are lovely in the garden and brilliant for containers too. Each plant is sturdy, very well branched and free flowering. Masses of lovely golden yellow flowers with a dark central disk are produced for weeks on end. They are easy to grow, good for cut flower production and excellent in the garden too. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit for outstanding garden performance.

Sow Waooh Sunflowers in succession for flowers all season from June to September. For your cut flower patch sow indoors March-April then plant out in May. Sow again when the soil has warmed up outdoors (from May onwards) for a later crop. If you are serious about cut flower production sow a batch of seeds every two weeks.

Conditions RequiredSunflowers prefer moist but well drained soil in full sun. Wahoo Sunflowers are sturdy so there's no need to stake. Water thoroughly in dry spells.
Flower ProductionMany stems with golden yellow blooms produced from June to September. Each flower head is 10cm (4 inches) across making them perfect for hand tied bouquets. Takes 11-12 weeks from seed to flower.
PickingFor cut flowers pick Sunflowers when the first few petals have unfurled. It's best to pick when it's cool, early in the morning or evening, strip most of the leaves from the stem and stand them in deep water for a few hours. Sunflowers have a long vase life, no preservative necessary.
