Summer Climber Seed Collection

A unique mix of vigorous climbing plants with masses of salmon/orange and rich purple flowers with gorgeous foliage too. Sow in spring for flowers and vines for cutting from mid summer to late autumn/winter. Climbing stems easily reach 2 metres / 6 feet or more so these are brilliant plants for adding height to the garden either within your borders or as distinct features on their own. They will happily grow in large pots on a sunny patio too. These climbers are brilliant to grow not only for their gorgeous rich blooms and lush foliage but also because they combine beautifully with late flowering Half Hardy Annuals such as Dahlias, Cleome, Zinnia and Cosmos.

There are six packets of seeds in this collection. All of them are reliable performers in British gardens.

  • Sweet Pea 'Blue Velvet'
  • Ipomoea lobata 'Exotic Love'
  • Cobaea scandens 'Purple'
  • Nasturtium 'Gleam Mixed'
  • Dolichos lablab 'Ruby Moon'
  • Sweet Pea 'Princess Elizabeth'

Plant Type Annual Climbers
Height & Spread
Most grow to 2 metres / 6 feet tall x 30cm/12 inches. In ideal conditions Cobaea may grow to 6 metres/20 feet so needs the support of a wall ideally.
Sow Seeds For best results sow under cover in late winter or spring.
Grow seedlings on individually then plant out your young plants when the ground has warmed up in May/June.
Thin/Plant Out These climbers need plenty of space to develop and grow.
When planting out allow about 30cm/12 inches between them.
Conditions Required Don't sow too soon as some of these climbers will sulk if the weather is too cold. Grow in full sun in moist but well drained soil.
Provide sturdy support such as an arch or pergola, tall canes or trellis. Young plants grow rapidly twining around the supporting structure and netting as they grow.
Flower Production Takes 12 -18 weeks to flower from a spring sowing. Flowers are produced from June/July until the first hard frosts in October or November/December.
Picking Cut flowers and vines when it’s cool… early in the morning or in the evening and pop them straight into a tall bucket of fresh water.
Planting Combinations These climbers are brilliant to grow not only for their gorgeous rich blooms and lush foliage but also because they combine beautifully with late flowering Half Hardy Annuals such as Dahlias, Cleome, Zinnia and Cosmos.
