Pink Cherry Blossom

Cherry ThumbnailA row of cherry trees smothered in beautiful pink blossom stopped me in my tracks today. I felt compelled to jump out of the car and take a few photos. The thing is that this flowering season may be fleeting so you just have to make the most of it and revel in the blossom when you can.

Back at home once I’d stopped revelling I delved into my gardening books to try to identify them. I’m not 100 percent sure which tree they were but what I saw seems to fit the description of Prunus ‘Accolade’ a flowering ornamental cherry tree.

Apparently the RHS (Royal Horticultural Society) have given this tree an AGM (Award of Garden Merit) because it is so good. What’s more they are very hardy trees and will grow in almost any conditions… They prefer full sun and moist but well drained fertile soil.

Now that’s a tree to make you happy is ever I saw one!

Hope you are enjoying the cherry blossom too. Gillian 🙂
