If you visit my blog now and again you’ll already know that I love bright colours. However I’m not usually a fan of purplish red and yellow together… but somehow they seem to work in this little jug of spring flowers.
I know they won’t last long. The Tete a tete Daffs and Hawthorn twigs will but we’ll get two or three days at the most out of the Hellebores. Really it’s better to wait until the flowers look like the picture below and have started to develop their seed pods before cutting them for a vase. You can clearly see how Hellebore flowers fade as their seeds ripen. They are still attractive though and worth cutting if yours have got to this stage already.
Happy 5th Blogging Anniversary to Cathy at Rambling in the Garden and Happy Gardening to you!
Oh, that’s lovely. I’m often skeptical of red and yellow together but you’ve found a great combination.
Me too! Thanks very much.
Oh that red hellebore is striking – is it Anna’s Red? Against the daffodils it looks more of a mahogany colour and, as you say, it seems to work with the yellow. I love the abundance of this vase, Gillian, so thanks for sharing it with us 🙂
Sorry Cathy I have no idea what this Hellebore is called. I don’t remember buying named plants… just hybrids I think.
I love the colour combination of the hellebore and tete a tete!
Thanks Sandra!
The colour combination is striking, Gillian, I think it does work especially in the plain white jug. Thanks for the hellebore tip.
Thanks Kate. I seem to have an abundance of white jugs. I really must be more adventurous next time I shop for vases!
good advice
Thanks Christina.
I have never seen these two flowers alone in a vase before, but how effective they are! 🙂
Thanks Cathy.
Gillian is a wonderful vase. The dark red Hellebore with yellow Daffodils are precious. The chosen vase (the white vase) is a special touch that gives rusticity and increases its beauty. I love. Greetings from Margarita.
Thanks Margarita.
What a beautiful combination. I love the way hellebores fade. In my garden, they just turn a pale pink as the burgundy tulips come through, making a nice ground cover for them. All the best. Karen
Thanks Karen. That sounds like a lovely combination of plants in your garden.
Thank you Gillian.
Wonderful contrast.
Thanks!
Pitcher perfect.
It may be bold but the deep red and vibrant yellow makes a great color mix, Gillian!
Thanks very much Kris.
Love this striking combination. My hellebores are still going strong – I have some purplish ones growing next to some daffs. Ciar (ps thank you as I have had several referrals to my blog from your website!)
Thanks very much Ciar. You are so welcome for the referrals. I find that having Posts I love (when I LIKE) in the Sidebar really encourages readers to find other blogs they love too.
Such a good strong colour Gillian, lovely
Thanks Dorris.
