I went to visit Gresgarth yesterday. It’s a large country garden set within the hills of north Lancashire at Caton. What I love about this garden is the strong structure provided by hedges, walls and terraces contrasted with the informality of the planting.

It’s a garden of contrasts. There are dramatic herbaceous borders and a beautiful lake with water lilies… and less formal gardens with wild flowers and simple planting schemes.

Open days for Gresgarth 2013
The garden is open on the second Sunday of the month for the next few months.
11th August, 8th September & 13th October from 11am – 5pm. £8 admission fee.
Autumn Colour on 10th November 11am – 3pm. Admission £8.50
