I hope you don’t mind a few more photos of Tulips! These shots were taken at Gresgarth Garden last weekend when the sun was shining brightly. It’s a little cooler here today but these pictures show how Tulips can look on a warm spring day.
Here’s Gresgarth House. Leaping forward in the picture are the bright red tulips in huge tubs on the terrace. Red is an advancing colour. It hits you right between the eyes and demands attention.
The pots weren’t all red and white… there were some lovely pinks too enhanced by a skirt of pale blue forget-me-nots.
Elsewhere in the garden Tulips were planted in the borders. I particularly loved this combination of dark foliage (Anthriscus ‘Ravens Wing’ I think) with some lovely fresh lime green strappy leaves and striking bi coloured tulips. I am so sorry that I can’t name the tulips for you but I do think the photos are worth sharing because of the original ways they have been used throughout the garden.
I must remember to be a little more adventurous when I’m ordering my tulip bulbs for next year! Wishing you a lovely weekend. Happy Gardening! Gillian 🙂
Not at all! It’s lovely to see these in flower: they were just geeen shoots protected by wire when I was there. What lovely light, too!
Glad you like them Susan.
These are stunning tulip displays. I think I need more red in my garden!
Funny you should say that… I was just thinking I should try some bolder combinations!
I do admire your pastel combos a lot though!
Thanks Eliza!
Thanks very much Eliza!
These are lovely combinations. I don’t seem to be so good at getting them to flower together (in spite of flowering guides). Great photos!
Thanks! They are lovely Allison and quite striking too. The house is amazing but I’ve only seen the outside as it’s not open to the public.
I echo what you and Eliza have said to each other above – next year! Meanwhile – what a stunning house it is (as well as displaying some fabulous tulip combinations).
That’s the great thing about gardening… there’s always next year! I agree Cathy it’s a fabulous house AND garden.
Actually seeing the tulips flowering is so much better than looking at a catalog
You are so right Christina. Most bulb suppliers describe their wares accurately but there is no doubt that seeing how tall, how colourful and how big the flowers are really helps.
What lovely tulip displays. Every year I regret not buying more but you need a bottomless purse for a really impressive display.
They are gorgeous aren’t they? If you want to fill your borders then it is pricey I agree. I think this is the secret though… plant them in big pots then they are all together and make quite a statement.
Amazing is not quite the word to describe that gorgeous house, water, and those beautiful tubs of tulips. Thanks for brightening my day. 🙂
I am very happy that you liked it Judy. Better than politics I’d say!
These tulips are absolutely gorgeous! What a beautiful house and setting too!

Gresgarth is truly lovely and inspirational. There are always lots of great ideas for plant combinations and for more practical matters such as supporting tall plants and garden maintenance.
