At college my tutors were always asking me “What are you trying to say?” I had no idea what they were talking about back then. I wasn’t really trying to say anything… or so I thought! I just wanted to learn how to take better photographs. Gradually I began to understand what it was that they were getting at.
Looking Good 25th September
It’s officially autumn now and the garden is just beginning to slip it’s golden coat on.
Our days are shorter and much cooler now and it’s dark when we get up in the morning!
It’s windy and huge rafts of grey clouds have been pelting rain at anything in their path.
We know what’s coming but it’s still a shock after the mild months of summer.
Foliage in the Foreground
Summer is almost over. There is just one week of summer left for the UK in 2015.
On 23rd September Autumn begins. Seasonal changes in day length and falling temperatures mean that already our flowers are beginning to bow out gracefully leaving attractive seed heads behind. Even though leaves are still green some of our trees are stunning with the low sunlight shining through leaves.

This morning I’ve made a long list of things I would like to do. This list is as long as your arm. It fills two A4 pages…
End of November
We’ve had lots of sunshine and blue sky in November 2014. It’s been a fantastic month for leaves and berries.
Acer Palmatum in Autumn
I love Autumn… especially this year. It’s most definitely been the best time to get outside, walk through the woods and take photos of trees and leaves. It’s been mild and sunny in Lancashire and the trees around here have been simply stunning.
The Apple in November
My lovely Bramley’s Seedling apple tree has been affected by the onset of autumn. Most of the leaves have gone.
At the branch tips the clusters of leaves still clinging on are turning crispy and golden brown at the edges in the cold wind.
Colours of Autumn 2014
Thinking about a world without colour yesterday made me look closely at the colours around me this autumn. This is what autumn looks like in my neck of the woods so far this year. Still plenty of colour, especially when enhanced by…
